Most graduate students live in Chapel Hill or Carrboro. If you have a roommate, you can often find a nice place for around $800/month per person, utilities included. When finding a place to live, make sure to take into consideration the transportation time and options to Hanes Hall. You will likely be taking the bus to campus, and class times often range from 8am to 5pm.

On Campus
Baity Hill is the on-campus graduate housing. First-year international students may find it convenient to live here first and move once they are able to explore the area more. It is a nice location and about 15 minutes by bus or 25 minutes by foot away from Hanes. This community hosts many events, like watch parties and karaoke, and also provide free food at times. However, Baity does require a $300 application fee and does not guarantee that you will get a room. Applications tend to fill up quickly, so it’s best to apply before early March. More information can be found here.

Off Campus
There’s often many people on Facebook looking for roommates; you can join a FB group, like this one. If you are new to the area and find signing a new lease to be daunting, it may be easier for you to join someone else’s lease instead. However, if you would like to sign a new lease, Apartment.com and Zillow are great sites to get started. The UNC reddit is quite responsive, so you can look for apartment reviews on there as well.
